  • How does bLink help reduce ghost fishing?
bLink helps combat ghost fishing by allowing fishermen to monitor and track their fishing gear. Using bLink as a SURF-buoy on the surface provides 24/7 location updates, ensuring you always know the exact position of your fishing gear. If any gear is accidentally lost, attaching bLink as a SUB-buoy ensures it will automatically release and surface after the timer expires, providing a precise GPS location for quick recovery of the lost gear. The SURF-buoy simplifies locating fishing gear, while the SUB-buoy enables the retrieval of gear that would otherwise be lost.
  • How many bLink buoys do I need?
The number of bLink buoys you need depends on the amount of fishing gear you have and where you fish. For maximum security, time savings, and access to valuable ocean data, we recommend using one buoy on the surface and one submerged buoy on each fishing gear. This combination ensures the best performance and reliability while enhancing your operations. If you rarely spend time searching for your gear but want the peace of mind that you’ll always retrieve it, we suggest using a submerged buoy on all your fishing gear.
  • Is bLink easy to use?
Absolutely! bLink was designed with user-friendliness in mind, making it quick to install and intuitive to operate. The buoy can be securely attached to all passive fishing gear with just a snap hook (carabiner). Once attached, bLink can be easily managed via your account, allowing you to monitor and track the gear effortlessly.
  • What are the main uses of bLink?
bLink is a versatile buoy designed primarily for marine applications in the fishing industry. It can be attached to any type of passive fishing gear, allowing for 24/7 monitoring and complete control. Initially, bLink was developed to reduce ghost fishing by preventing abandoned fishing gear from remaining in the ocean. However, during development, we realized bLink could also serve as a key tracking device to streamline fishing operations and significantly reduce fuel costs, as it minimizes the time vessels spend searching for buoys/fishing gear. This discovery expanded our vision for bLink's applications, though preventing ghost fishing remains our top priority.
  • What are the cost-saving benefits of using bLink?
By reducing the time you spend searching for fishing gear, bLink helps significantly cut down on fuel costs. With bLink, you can track the buoys’ exact locations, meaning you no longer need to spend extra time and fuel searching for fishing gear. The tracking feature also minimizes the risk of losing valuable fishing gear, which will save replacement costs over time.
  • Can bLink be used for other things then just fishing?
Yes! If you have an idea, please contact us; we would be happy to help!
  • Can I use the same bLink buoy as either a SUB-buoy or a SURF-buoy?
Yes! The bLink buoy is designed with flexibility in mind. You don’t need to decide how you want to use it until you’re ready to deploy it at sea. The buoy automatically detects whether it’s being used as a submerged or surface buoy. Simply attach it to your fishing gear, intending for it to function either submerged or on the surface, and let bLink handle the rest
  • How does bLink improve operational efficiency for fishing vessels?
bLink enhances operational efficiency by providing accurate data on the location of your fishing gear. This means vessels can quickly locate and retrieve gear, reducing the downtime spent searching. Over time, this leads to faster, more efficient trips, saving both fuel and labor costs.
  • Can bLink be used on different types of fishing gear?
Yes, bLink is designed to be compatible with all types of passive fishing gear. Whether you’re using nets, traps, lines, or other passive fishing gear, bLink’s adaptable design lets you attach it easily to monitor and control your fishing gear. This versatility makes bLink a useful tool for various fishing operations, regardless of the specific methods or gear involved.
  • What happens if bLink cannot get coverage at sea?
Short answer: You can still use bLink, but some manual input will be required. Here's how it works: If you're out fishing and ready to deploy the buoy, but it cannot receive a 4G signal, the buoy will alert you with its red and green blinking lights. While bLink will still record GPS coordinates, it won't be able to transmit this data to the server without a 4G connection. This may occur far from shore across the coastline or in areas near land where tall mountains block signal coverage. What to do in these situations: Open the application and manually set the GPS position where you deployed the fishing gear. The surface buoy won't be able to transmit the position until it regains signal coverage. However, the bright search LEDs remain functional, providing assistance in locating the buoy visually. We recommend using a submerged buoy as a backup in case the fishing gear is lost. The submerged buoy will float to the surface when released, making it easier to locate the lost gear with its bright LEDs. Important to note: Even without a signal, bLink records GPS coordinates. When you return to an area with 4G coverage, the buoy will upload all stored data automatically to your application. Future updates, including 5G satellite connectivity, will eliminate coverage issues. We strive to ensure bLink remains reliable in various conditions, offering robust functionality whether you're near or far from shore.
